This course aims at providing an initial understanding of the nature and purpose of various approaches to research.
 

ECED 508 62A: Review of Research in Early Childhood Education (Dr.Asselin)

This course is designed to explore the landscape of research in early childhood education. In addition to building knowledge of research as it relates to young children, students will examine the types of research questions posed, the theories and perspectives which inform early childhood researchers, and the ways in which they design, execute, and report their studies. The course engages students in exploring the prominent issues, trends, and challenges that are unique to early childhood education research.

ECED 421 93Q: Supporting Young Children Through Home, School and Community Relationships (Dr.Waugh)

This course is designed to provide a theoretical and practical understanding strengths, challenges and potential practices toward building effective home, school, community partnerships that support young children.

ECED 530 97A: Early Childhood Development, Intervention and Inclusion in Early Childhood Programs (Dr. El Khatib)

This course will introduce those who work in early childhood professions to the field of early childhood special education. It focuses on typical and atypical early childhood development and instructional strategies that accommodate young children with special needs into any regular classroom.

ECED 585E 91A: Advanced Seminar on Research in Early Childhood Education: Sociocultural Perspectives in ECE (Dr.Berger)

This course is designed to introduce students to major theories underlying evolving sociocultural perspectives of early childhood education and care, and to critically question personal and societal views of children, development, knowledge, education, and learning.

LLED556 62 A: Theory and Research in Early Literacy (Dr.Li)

This course provides early childhood professionals with foundational knowledge in early literacy, including key concepts of “emergent literacy”; historical and contemporary views of literacy acquisition; cognitive, social, and cultural aspects of early literacy; and school and home environments that foster literacy development.

ECED 401 93Q: Supporting Young Children’s Health and Wellbeing (Dr.Nesbitt)

This course introduces students to dimensions of young children’s well-being within the early learning and care context. The course will draw on early learning theory, research and policy to explore the concept of well-being as it applies to young children in early learning and care environments.

ECED 531 97A: Supporting Young Children’s Social Emotional Learning in Early Childhood Programs (Dr.Low)

This course is designed to provide insights into the social and emotional lives of young children. Exploration into the theories and research on some key aspects of social and emotional learning will be examined.

ECED 585F 61A: Advanced Seminar on Research in Early Childhood Education: Leadership and Policy in ECE Education (Dr.Berger)

This course explores leadership and policy within the context of current political and philosophical dialogues in the field of early childhood education and beyond.

ECED 590 62A: Graduating Project (Dr.Pighini and Dr.Berger)

This course is designed to facilitate a broad-based demonstration of your theoretical and applied knowledge and the attainment of your own personal goals you acquired and developed during your Master’s program.
